The Director of Electoral Services at Ghana’s Electoral Commission says, upon further consultations with several bodies, Civil Society Organisations and the various political parties, the Bio-Data of the Biometric Register will not be discarded because those data are still in good shape to be put to very useful use.
He reiterated that the Commission’s current position is to recall all registrants to go update their biometric and facial recognition details.
The largest opposition party, National Democratic congress together with other political parties and Ghanaians as a whole are calling on the Electoral Commissioner, Madame Jean Mensah to change their position on creating a new voter register.
Calls have also come from other civil society organizations and religious leaders to back the position of those calling for the abolishment of the new voters’ register.
