Any chief who stands to shake hands with Akufo-Addo must be destooled – Barker Vormawor

Social activist and commentator, Oliver Barker Vormawor, has called for the destoolment of any chief who stands to greet the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo. His comment follows allegations that the President orders traditional rulers to be on their feet before exchanging pleasantries with him.

“I swear any chief that stands up to go and shake those … hands deserves to be destooled,” Vormawor wrote in a social media post.

President Akufo-Addo has been captured in recent video footage instructing some chiefs to stand up to shake hands with him. One of the ‘disturbing’ footage was captured in the Oti Region where the president went for a funeral. The most recent incident happened in the Dagbon Kingdom when the president expected the Yagbonwura to walk up to him to exchange pleasantries.

However, the Yagbonwura did not make any moves, and instead, the president walked up to him and greeted him.

For Mr. Vormawor, the attitude of the first gentleman of the land, towards those in traditional authority, is “nauseating”. He said President Akufo-Addo wouldn’t dare order chiefs such as the Okyenhene to stand on their feet to exchange pleasantries with him.

The social activist further showered praises on the Yagbonwura for standing up to the “buffoonery” of the president.

“Before the KyebiHene, Nana Addo postrates. And before other chiefs, his handlers are screaming at them to get up and come and shake him,” he noted.

“Thumbs up to the Yagbonwura for ignoring this buffoonery,” the activist added.
