Dr. Daniel Markin is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Uniex. A Ghanaian by birth and married with four children.
He owns 90% shares in Uniex Ghana Limited and stocks in Uniex USA Inc. He holds 100% share in the Miracle Wave Int. Ltd, Mines and Agric Supports Ltd, The Markin Hills Ltd and the currently under construction the University for Entrepreneur Development. Dr Markin is a mechanical engineer and a business administrator by profession. He is an entrepreneur with in-depth knowledge in project development and financing.
He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, and Executive Masters in Business Administration (Ex. MBA) from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Graduate School of Business. He also holds certificate from GIMPA, Accra, on Chairing of Boards (1999), and commenced a Ph D programme in Business Administration in 2007.He holds an Honourary Doctorate degrees in Business Administration and development from the Asland University, Ohio, USA and St Thomas A- Becket University, Canterbury, Kent .England
Dr Markin has in-depth training, knowledge and experience in Project Development, Leadership Skills, Contract Negotiation, Effective Supervision and Management, Market Development and Sustenance, Time Management, Effective Marketing, Effective Communication and Financial Management.
He has participated in many workshops and seminars in Ghana and abroad (international). Amongst these are;
West Africa Regional Trade Workshop (June 29-30, 1998) @ Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, ORGANISED BY U. S. Feed Grains Council International. Donor Conferences (in the years 1999, and 2000) in Accra Ghana’s Economic Forum/dialogue etc led a delegation which negotiated a $6billion facility with the Chinese Exim Bank to which the MOU was signed in 2010 by the China Exim Bank and the Ministry of Finance of Ghana witnessed by Dr. Markin.
His Business and Social practice spans over a wide range of activities. Among these are: In; In 1998 sourced a US$5Billion from Meryl Lynch and Paiwyber through Perpetual Aid Trust in the USA for Ghana in 1999 but the country refused to conclude the transaction led a three-man delegation including Ghana’s Ambassador to China and negotiated US$3Billion for Ghana in 2010.
1987, Established Comesco Enterprise Limited, a trucking (haulage) business and registered it as a limited liability company. He raised this company from nothing to a million-dollar company within six (6) years of operation. He subsequently donated the equipments for others to set up their own business.
1992, Formed a Political Party, the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) with other founding members and became its first General Secretary from 1992 to 1997, and saw to the establishment of the structures of the party as well as its running from meagre resources. The DPP allied itself to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the EGLE Party, which won two consecutive national Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 1992 and 1996. Which ruled Ghana from 1993 to 2001 and 2003 to date (2013)
1994, Founded Uniex Ghana Limited, with Divisions/Departments for: Mining; Trade and Agriculture; Consulting; and Construction
1997, Elected as the National Chairman of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and reconfirmed in the 1998 National Delegates Congress of the Party in Kumasi. His duties as the national chairman was as is required of all those in similar positions in the democratic world. The added responsibility was that as a founding member and the Chairman the onus of raising funds for the running of the party lied on his shoulders, which he discharged creditably.
1997, Appointed by H. E. Dr. Rawlings, the then President of Ghana as a member of the NATIONAL ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT TEAM, which had oversight responsibility over the national economy. This committee was chaired by the then Vice President Prof. Atta Mills. Resigned in 1999.
1997 – 1999, Served as a member of the VALUE ADDED TAX OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE of the Republic; and Drafted the VAT Bill for Parliament.
1997 – 1999, Served as a member of the Communications Resource Group of the Ministry of Communications of the Republic; responsible for formulating policies for enhanced media environment and to assist in creating the framework for the establishment of the National Media Commission.
1998 – 2000, Appointed by H. E. the President of Ghana as a member of the CABINET’S LEGAL AND POLITICAL SUB COMMITTEE OF THE GOVERNMENT OF GHANA; Duties included assessing and vetting government appointees to state bodies.
1998 -2000, Appointed by H. E. Prof Atta Mills, the then Vice President of the Republic of Ghana as a member of the Ghana Governments In-house Committee, Castle; which was responsible for the monitoring, advising and giving direction to Government Ministries and Agencies. This Committee was chaired by the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana.
1998-2000, Served as a member of the OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE of the Progressive Alliance and the Government from 1998 to 2000. The committee overlooked the general political atmosphere in the country and operated as a political think tank for the government. This Committee was chaired by the President of the Republic of Ghana .
AUG 1998 – 2000, Appointed by the President of Ghana in consultation with the Council of State as the CHAIRMAN of the Board of Directors for the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Duties included formulation of policy.
JAN 1999, Nominated by Government as a Board Member of the GHANA COMMERCIAL BANK; the biggest Bank in Ghana, but he declined the offer afterwards.
JULY 1999, Appointed by the President of Ghana in consultation with the Council of State as the CHAIRMAN of the newly established Board of Directors for the GHANA HIGHWAY AUTHORITY, 1999 to 2001, and with the support of the Board members was responsible for policy formulation, implementation of the Ghana Highway Act, general supervision of management and giving direction and approval to road and bridge constructions in Ghana. Amongst the many achievement as GHA Board chairman was the establishment and implemented of Toll booth in Ghana as a source of revenue to maintain road and bridges.
2001, Established contracts with Ghanaian importers for and on behalf of Uniex Ghana Limited.
1992, Appointed a Life Trustee of the Church of Christ (SM), a Church established in 1952 and registered in 1958 with over 300 Branches in Ghana, Ivory Coast (now La Côte d’Ivoire), Nigeria and Liberia. Currently, he is the only Trustee of the Church and a main speaker in most of the Churches conventions from1992 to date.
1996, Led Uniex to source markets for rice importers and assisted Delta Foods Limited sell its shipload (12,500 MT) of rise from India on the Ghanaian market.
1996, Jointly established Uniex USA with Mr John Mark Ahinful in Minnesota. The company was re-incorporated in the year 2003.
1997, Led Uniex in her participation in the importation of 22,000 metric tones of maize (corn) by Delta Foods Limited and Exatrade into Ghana, which was purchased by the Government of Ghana against the El nino crisis. Uniex facilitated the transaction between Delta Foods Limited and the Ghana Government through the instrumentation of its Executive Chairman. Uniex also did the inland transportation and hauled the entire consignment with its trucks and hired ones, as well as supervising the bagging and stacking of the commodities. Dr Markin also participated immensely in the contract development, preservation plans and evacuation, as well as participating in the legal and financial deliberations of the project. Uniex led by Dan Markin, also performed brokerage and consulting services in the transaction
On 15 July 2009 President Mills appointment Dr. Dan Markin as the chairman of the Ghana Railways Development Authority board having consulted with the Council of State of Ghana in line with Ghana’s constitution.
Dr. Markin thus is the first chairman of this new Authority; Ghana Railways Development Authority established under an act of parliament 2009. This is the second time that Dr Markin has been made the first Board Chairman of a state Authority . ( Ghana highway Authority and Ghana Railways Development Authority in a span of 20 years)
As the chairman of the GRDA , Dr Markin has among other things seen to implementation of the Railways Act including the drawing or establishment of:
- The Authority offices and staff which never existed
- Railways Master Plan for Ghana
- Personally paid for and established a website for GRDA.
- Railways Regulation for Ghana
- Registration / criteria for Contractors and Operators.
- Railways Development fund Board
Tema Community One station , Hobour station and its rail linesd from Tema Community one to asaprochona for the Accra Tema Railways lines
Construction of new Secondi – Kojo Krom railways dual carriage lines
Superiatended the processes for the construction of the Western Railway lines amongst others the above were all executed in a span of 3 years .
Between 2009 and 2012. Dr Markin served as a Presidential Advisor to his Excellency President Prof John Evans Attah Mills President of the Republic of Ghana and as a pastor to the President.
Dr Markin has in recent times commenced the establishment of construction of the first solar city in West Africa located between Accra and Dodowa. The city is earmarked to have 500 houses with over 2500 room spaces .
He is in the process of commissioning a TV and Radio station at Baatsona in Accra by Dec 2013 which is a result of his sweat and vision. He is currently completing the construction of a new University in Accra for entrepreneurial development.
He has written, arranged and produced 70 songs put together in Six (6) album’s
Besides being a life trustee of the Church of Christ (sm). His missionary works stretches to the foundation of many Churches amongst them are the Christian Action Faith Ministries, the Light House Chapel Int, the Living streams Int. etc. He has participated in many governmental and private business meetings globally. He has been a speaker at many international fora.
Dr. Markin’s business experience has led to the mentorship of many young business men and the establishment of many business houses in Ghana.
His missionary work as a Christian has brought salvation, healing and training of many people.
As a Presidential Advisor he was regularly with the entourage of the President of Ghana on Presidential trips.
He is currently a consultant to many Banks in Ghana and an investment advisor to many corporate entities.
