Liverpool will only enter the race for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak if the Sweden international is made available for transfer, according to a report. Isak, who has netted 19 Premier League goals this season, is currently one of the league’s top scorers, behind only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah. His impressive tally has brought his total to 50 goals in 76 appearances since joining Newcastle for £63m in 2022.
Despite Newcastle’s strong performance this season, the club’s qualification for next season’s Champions League remains uncertain.
This has sparked speculation that Isak may consider a move this summer, with reports suggesting that, given his contract runs until 2028, a potential transfer could cost as much as £150m.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is said to be a big admirer of the 25-year-old, while Chelsea and Barcelona have also shown interest.
Liverpool, too, are thought to be keen, but according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Reds have made it clear they will only pursue Isak if he becomes “genuinely available.” Liverpool are not willing to engage in a “wild goose chase” for the striker.
Currently, Newcastle has no intention of letting Isak go and is instead looking to extend his contract. The club’s CEO, Darren Eales, recently stated that they have no financial need to entertain offers for their star forward.
However, if a bid of £150m is made, it would certainly draw attention from interested clubs, though they will hope to lower that price if Isak signals a desire to leave St James’ Park.
Liverpool is expected to undergo an attacking overhaul this summer, with Darwin Nunez potentially leaving after coming close to a move in January.
There are also questions about the futures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah. While Salah’s contract is nearing its end and there are concerns he could leave on a free transfer, recent reports suggest that Salah is focused on extending his stay at Anfield.
