Katanga, officially known as University Hall and alluded to as the heart of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, is one of the very vibrant all-male halls of residence in Ghana’s traditional universities.  Over the years, they have been in the news for all kinds of reasons; notably, protesting against perceived unfavourable policies of university administration, clashes with other halls and on a seemingly quiet side – social projects they carry out mostly in deprived schools from time to time.

Courage Ahiati

Going by the popular African proverb which says “Until the Story of the hunt is told by the Lion, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter”, the Fellows have decided to write their own story.  A former Hall Secretary of Katanga, Courage Ahiati has published a book on the history of the hall. The book, Chronicles of Katanga takes you down memory lane and not only tells the stories of this famous hall over the years but also gives an insight into the momentous orientation that served as catalyst for these events in the history of the hall.

Nana Awere Damoah, a renowned Ghanaian writer, in his foreword to the books says “Chronicles of Katanga oozes with action and lessons, mixed with judicious servings of nostalgia for anyone who attended KNUST. The story of Katanga is not for only Katangese. It is for all of you, and us, who were fortunate, nay blessed, to come within a kilometre of this university within a university”.
