According to Mr. Fiagadzi in a press statement copied Awake News, said he on the that very moment the incident happened apologized to his “close and personal friend who we wine and dine together” and “for which I would not in any situation try to harm him for any reason”

Narrating the incident which led to the Volta Region Branch of the Ghana Journalist Association in a statement announcing their boycott of all NDC events, Mr. Fiagadzi said:

“As a matter of fact, the incident happened at the tail end of event where polls had ended and the winner declared. The said event was a misunderstanding between the opposing supporters, which created a scene where myself and some other party members rushed to restore calm by separating the parties involved. In the event of the stampede, my hand hit Mr. Obrepong’s phone, which fell on the ground, realizing that, I picked it up, apologized respectfully and handed his phone back to him.”

“Not until Monday, 26th when I had a call from the police at Nkwanta to assist them in an investigation of assault case lodged against me by Mr Obrepong. I was dismayed by the call but as a good and law abiding citizen I am calm and currently cooperating with the police in the investigations.”

The NDC has since apologised to the Adom TV’s reporter over the incidence.

RE- IMMEDIATE RELEASE

My attention has been drawn to a publication undersigned by the Volta Regional Secretary of Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Mr. Alberto Mario Noretti in circulation on social media platforms and on some online as well as main stream media concerning an alleged assault on one Mr. Obrepong Kwame Owusu of Adom TV.

I wish to state in unreserved terms that, the said release is untrue, askew, fallacious and unfortunate to say the least and that, it is an attempt to dent and ridicule my hard earned reputation in the view of reasonable people in the society.

I want to place on record that, there was not any form of attempt to restraint, prevent, stop or physical contact whatsoever, between my good self and the journalist in question during the election process not to say I attacked or slapped him.

As a matter of fact, the incident happened at the tail end of event where polls had ended and the winner declared. The said event was a misunderstanding between the opposing supporters, which created a scene where myself and some other party members rushed to restore calm by separating the parties involved. In the event of the stampede, my hand hit Mr. Obrepong’s phone, which fell on the ground, realizing that, I picked it up, apologized respectfully and handed his phone back to him.

Not until Monday, 26th when I had a call from the police at Nkwanta to assist them in an investigation of assault case lodged against me by Mr Obrepong. I was dismayed by the call but as a good and law abiding citizen I am calm and currently cooperating with the police in the investigations.

I want to equally add that, throughout my political life, I have remained diplomatic and friendly to all regardless of our differences, and that, Mr. Obrepong is a close and personal friend who we wine and dine together for which I would not in any situation try to harm him for any reason.

Finally, I wish to add that, my outfit shall be available to continue to cooperate with the police in bringing this matter to reasonable conclusion so as to clear the distorted facts as well as the attempt to dent the image of the party and my good self.

Signed
Prince Succeed Fiagadzi
