Gun shots is been fired at the governing New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary election re-run in Walewale.

Awake News gathered that during sorting of the ballot papers, a ballot box was snatched by the former NPP Yagaba-Kubori Chairman, Akamari Bawa, which compelled the Ghana Police Services personnel to fire warning shots.

The culprit was arrested with the ballot box and taken to the Walewale Police Staion.

The contest is between the incumbent MP Hajia Lariba Zuweratu and the Special Advisor to the Vice President, Dr Tiah Abdul-Kabiru  Mahama.

This comes after the Tamale High Court in the Northern Region presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah, ordered a re-run of the constituency’s primary on Monday, September 2, 2024.

The incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu in June 2024, secured an injunction with restrainding Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru from holding himself as the elected parliamentary candidate of the NPP Walewale constituency.

She attributed the action as a cause of irregularities in the PC election.
