The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has cautioned some hoteliers within Tema and its environs to help curb the insurgence of illegal activities within the metropolis.
Mr Isaac Asiam, the Director of the GTA in charge of the Tema region, speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Tema, organised by the Ghana Progressive Hotels Association (GHAPROHA) on human trafficking, stated that his outfit would ensure all receptive facilities within the metropolis adhered to stringent measures in the discharge of their hospitality duties.
Mr Asiam stated that the GTA oversaw the registering and licensing of the various facilities and that the authority would not hesitate to revoke licenses of recalcitrant facilities and close them down completely.
He said the hotels within the Tema metropolis must ensure high standards in their daily activities, stressing that minors must not be entertained within their facilities without any proper supervision.
He also called on the hoteliers to cooperate with the various security agencies to curb the current human trafficking trend within the area, adding that any facility being used as a receptive facility must register with the appropriate agency or face sanctions.
Mr Asiam intimated that security issues must be considered a top priority by hoteliers, stating that genuine tourists and other people who patronise hotelier services should not have their safety compromised.
He said the Tema metropolis would be a safe place for tourist attractions and other befitting engagements if they help build a good and cordial working relationship.
