Without respect for law and order the Minister of Energy Mr. John Peter Amewu yesterday 3rd, January 2021 infringed on the Ho High Court order and registered to be a member of the 8th parliament.
On Day 2 of MPs elect registration at parliament house, the embattled member of parliament elect for the Hohoe Constituency registered as MP-elect despite a court injunction placed on the parliamentary results by the Ho High Court on Gazetting of the results. This act of disregard for the court order and registering as MP-elect by Amewu can best be described as contempt of Court. The court gave placed an injunction on Gazetting of the results due to the Electoral Commission’s failure to allow the people of SALL to take part in the 2020 parliamentary election. The injunction was placed pending an amicable resolution of the matter by the appropriate institutions.
However, it is alleged this constitutional violation was a conspiracy by the Electoral Commission and the NPP government to ensure that the minister wins the seat by hook or crook led to the deliberate disenfranchising of some people of the constituency purported to be within the NDCs strongholds on the heavy of the election by the EC, against their initial promise to these residents.
Subsequently, some citizens from these communities that were prevented from choosing their Member of Parliament seek redress at the High Court, following the injunction secured from the High court.
Upon delivery of the injunction thugs of the embattled MP-elect molested the court bailiffs. The Attorney General allegedly has also conspicuously come to the aid of Mr. Amewu and praying the Supreme Court to declare the Ho High Court injunction null and void, indicating that the High Court has no jurisdiction over the issue of a deliberate violation of the constitutional right of the people of SALL.
As they say, coming events cast their shadows, the Ghanaians US-based investigative journalist Kevin Taylor, has alleged that the Supreme Court shall pass judgment in favor of the embattled MP-elect with the list of Supreme Court impaneled justices to sit on the case today January 4th 2021.
He added that Peter Amewu has already been informed of what will happen at the court so his registration at Parliament House.
Meanwhile, our checks in Parliament revealed that the Clerk of Parliament was served a notice of the injunction placed on Mr. Amewu which the said letter from the plaintiffs’ lawyers was received by the Clerk on 24th of December 2020 to bringing his attention to orders of injunction on Peter Amewu from presenting himself to be sworn in a MP for Hohoe.
