Former President John Dramani Mahama is asking the President Akufo-Addo led NPP government to suspend plans to build constituency offices for Members of Parliament “until the economy is out of the woods”.
In a short Facebook post, Former President Mahama said, “In our current economic state, public funds must go into projects that are necessary and which meet the pressing needs of our people in the communities” adding that “Such projects must have tangible and measurable impact on job creation and national development.”
He wants government to rather make provision for the MPs in District Assemblies or already exiting government structures.
“In the interim, office space can be found within the District Assemblies or other government buildings for the purpose.” – He proposes.
Ghana is currently in the hardest economic hardship with prices of basic commodities shooting up over 60%.
Price of fuel which is one of the major determinants in the prices of goods and services has short up from 6ghc per litre to 17ghc per litre in just less than 4months.
The Ghana cedi has also depreciated about 60% against the dollar.
