Dreams FC advance to CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals

Dreams FC

Ghana FA Cup champions Dreams FC are continuing the historic journey in the CAF Confederation Cup after confirming a place in the last four. The Ghanaian side took a 1-2 advantage in the first leg in Mali ahead of the return leg in Kumasi.

However, it was the Malians who showed real intent as they sought to fight back to sting the Ghanaians out of the competition. A 59th-minute goal by Yoro Mamadou Diaby gave Stade Malien the lead just about the hour mark.

With the line now thinly balanced, Karim Zito’s wonder boys pulled their strings to ensure no mishap in front of their fans. Sylvester Simba made sure of it with the equalizer in the 70th minute to put the tie back in the Ghanaians favours.

Neither side could increase their tally as they settled for a draw, with Stade Malien bowing out via a 3-2 aggregate defeat.

Dreams FC meanwhile, will await the winner of the Zamalek vs Modern Future tie. The Egyptian giants had a 2-1 first leg advantage over their local rivals. Whatever the outcome, Ghana’s FA Cup champions will make a trip to Egypt with the hope of causing another upset as their roller coaster ride in the competition continues.

NOTE: Dreams FC are competing in the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time in their history.
