CUTS International has criticized Telecel Ghana for giving customers short notice on new broadband subscription rates.

The consumer group said Telecel’s last-minute announcement reflects a growing trend in Ghana’s telecom sector. Companies often give customers little time to adjust before raising prices.

CUTS acknowledged that market conditions may require price adjustments. However, it stressed the need for timely and transparent communication, especially for prepaid services.

Telecel sent an SMS notifying customers that new prices will take effect on Monday, April 28, 2025, with less than three days’ notice.

CUTS argued that Telecel’s broadband billing cycle demands at least one month’s notice before any price change.

“A notice period of less than three days does not give consumers enough time to assess their options,” the group said.

It added that respecting consumer rights builds competitive markets and strengthens trust between providers and customers.

This incident follows a similar one last month when MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, gave subscribers less than a week’s notice.
