A Jos-based Creative Minds Development Institute of Nigeria has been given the green light to run three technical and vocational based Information Technology programmes starting from next academic year, January 2020.
The Resource Assessment Team from the Federal Ministry of Education arrived in Jos, Nigeria yesterday for quite themselves first-hand information since the school was established a few months ago.
Speaking to Awake News after the visit, the Founder of the Institue, Dr. Emmanuel Ande Ivogba said “The Federal Government Assessment Team upon their visit approved three different courses for us”.
“This means the Institute is accredited to start running courses in NID in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology, NID in Networking and Systems Security and NID in Computer Software Engineering” – Dr. Ivorgba said
According to Dr. Ivorgba, the Institue which seeks to provide practical and employable skills training to its prospective students will contribute significantly to the countries manpower base hence helping complement efforts of government and other stakeholders in reducing unemployment in Nigeria.
CMDI is a Government-Approved and Accredited Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI) to offer Certificate and National Innovation Diploma Programs by the Federal Government of Nigeria and Plateau State Ministry of Higher Education.
Below are the courses approved for the Institute:
NID in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology
MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
Entry Qualifications for NID in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology
- S.C.E or its equivalent. Credit passes in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English language and any other one from Metal works, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Geography, and Further Mathematics.
- The National Vocational Certificate {NVC} or National Technical Certificate {NTC} with credit passes in the trade modules and five academic subjects relevant to the programme and at least a pass in English language.
PROGRAM DURATION
NID in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology Program Duration
a). Four semesters of two years full-Time.
b). Six semesters of three years- Part-Time
c). 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week
d). 18 weeks per semester (one week for registration and one for examination)
CURRICULUM STRUCTURE
The curriculum of the NID in Computer Hardware Engineering Technology program consists of main components. These are:
1). General studies/education
2). Foundation Courses
3). Professional Courses
4). Supervised Industrial/practical work scheme.
NID in Networking and Systems Security
MINIMUM ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
The general entry requirements for the National Innovation Diploma (NID) in NID in Networking and Systems Security are:
- Post Secondary School Leavers with 5 Credits level passes in SSCE or equivalent, who are desirous of acquiring relevant employable skills
- Unemployed or under-employed graduates looking for requisite employable skills
- Employed graduates who desire relevant or additional working skills
- Those out of school for a long time, in line with Government desire for open access to re-skilling and up-skilling of the nation’s workforce as part of Life Long Learning (LLL)
- Post NVC Final (articulation from the VEIs)
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
A product of National Innovation Diploma in Networking & System Security should be able to:
- Diagnose and correct faults on different networks;
- Implement network security and handle backup and recovery;
- Install, configure and troubleshoot all types of network hardware devices;
- Set up and upgrade a computer network;
- Start a small and medium scale enterprise that would provide solutions to organizations’ networks;
- Manage and administer computer network for optimum utilization;
- Update the performance and baseline of a network using network monitoring tools.
NID in Computer Software Engineering
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirements into National Innovation Diploma in Computer Software Engineering program include any of the following:-
a). Five (5) credit level passes in GCE “O” level or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English language and any other subject.
b). National Vocational Certificate (NVC, Final) in Computer Studies from an approved Vocational Enterprise Institution (VEI)
CURRICULUM STRUCTURE
The structure of the NID in Computer Software Engineering program is made up of four semesters of classroom, laboratory, workshop and practical activities in the institution – and a period at least 3 months of supervised industrial attachment. Each semester shall have 17 weeks duration made up as follows:- 15 contact weeks of learning and practical applications 2 weeks for examinations and registration.
