The Chairperson for the 2018 Agbamevorza (Kente festival) of the people of Agortime-Kpetoe, Mr. Eddie Aportey has assured the public that this year’s Agbamevorza will come off without any hitches.
Commenting on events that necessitated the cancellation of last year’s (2017) durbar, at the media launch yesterday, Mr. Eddie said, “Last [ads1]year, we had to call off the festival in the interest of peace and security in our land. We don’t regret that action we took, but this year we have put in measures to curb such occurrences”.
“We have separated the chiefs from the festival all completely. This year, any chief that will be coming to the festival, would come on an invitation from the Planning Committee. In effect, if the Planning Committee does not give you an invitation to participate in our program, you’ll not be welcomed at our program.” he added.
This year’s Agbamevorza (Kente festival) is expected to start on Sunday 14th to Sunday 21st October 2018. The festival is expected to draw people from in and out of Kpetoe, the continent and Europe at large.
The highlights of this year’s Kente festival, includes the firing of musketry, a pageantry, health walk and medical outreach, Godibe (cultural exhibition of the exodus of the people of Agortime from Lekpo), quiz competition, cleaning exercise, and a grand durbar to climax the events on Saturday 20th October, 2018.
The President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the US Ambassador to Ghana, Ministers of state and a high delegation of people from the US are expected to grace this year’s Agbamevorza at Kpetoe, as they exhibit the unique Agortime Kente.
