A 20-yr-old lady who hails from Libode, Eastern Cape has given birth to a baby with a rare genetic condition, Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, which has made the baby look like a ’70-yr-old’.
Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, is a genetic condition characterized by the dramatic, rapid appearance of aging beginning in childhood.
Children affected with thus condition usually look normal at birth and in early infancy, but then grow more slowly than other children and do not gain weight at the expected rate. They then develop facial appearance including; prominent eyes, a thin nose with a beaked tip, thin lips, a small chin, and protruding ears.
Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome also causes hair loss, aged-looking skin, joint abnormalities, and a loss of fat under the skin.
Photos of the baby and her mother have made rounds online and sadly, some social media users have been passing unworthy comments about the baby.
