Togolese ‘invasive’ securities released by Jasikan police

The three Togolese security officials who were arrested by the Jasikan police in the Volta region on Tuesday the 1st of January 2019, have been released.

The three, were part of the eight Togolese security personnel who invaded the country on Tuesday, to arrest a suspected dissident at Amoako, a village in the Jasikan District.

In a briefing with Daily Graphic, the Volta Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Ebenezer Francis Doku revealed that the Jasikan Police was informed about the invasion of the eight security personnel.

According to him, the security officials were said to be involved in a clash with residents of Amoako, who was not too happy over their reason for the invasion.

During the clash, five of the eight fled back to Togo, leaving the three who were mobbed by the residents until the police arrived in the company of the Jasikan District Chief Executive.

DCOP Doku, added that the alleged dissident denied having crossed to Togo and could apparently not have committed an act of civil disobedience in Togo.

Negotiation with Togolese Commander

DCOP Doku said in the course of investigations, the sector commander of the Togolese military arrived at Jasikan to negotiate their release.

Upon the release of the soldiers, the Jasikan police escorted them to the border in order to avoid a further clash with the village folks.

He [DCOP Doku], revealed further that, Interpol Ghana was informed about the incident and had taken up the matter with the Togolese officials to ensure that, due processes are followed on such matters to be dealt with amicably.
