Miss Rawlings is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle-Klottey, Greater Accra, where most silted drains have resulted in devastating flooding.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Chief Executive said last year, the Assembly spent over GHc2 million to dredge major choked drains in the capital, but many residents including the Korle-Klottey MP and her constituents wondered why the work could not stop parts of Accra from flooding in 2018.

Last Sunday evening, 30 minutes’ rain inundated parts of Accra, killing five persons, according to NADMO officials, leaving Ghanaians to express shock at the destruction few minutes of rain always left the nation’s capital.

Speaking on ‘Point Blank’ on Citi FM Monday evening, Zenator Rawlings said the AMA had continuously failed to dredge heavily choked drains in her constituency.

Korle-Klottey often floods anytime it rains, she lamented.

To let the AMA turn its attention to her constituency, she said the constituency would soon stage a mass protest to shake the Assembly.

Later on Citi TV’s ‘Point Of View’, Nii Adjei Sowah, AMA Chief Executive said the Assembly had begun dredging drains from Alajo to mitigate the consequences of flooding.

Bad sanitation practices by most residents have mainly accounted for the flooding narratives in the nation’s capital, and Mr Sowah said the Assembly would raze all unauthorised buildings and squatters living in flood-prone areas and along major drains.
