Vice president and presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised student nurses that their training allowances will be settled within the week. He said the money will be paid to the Ministry of Health on Thursday for onward distribution to the students.
“This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances. So I have also alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby when the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their alawa. It will drop.”
Student allowance has been in arrears for some time with the government often failing to release the money regularly. Since its restoration as a campaign promise in 2017, the allowance has always been settled after accumulating for months.
The situation has left students often complaining about the hardships they go through in its absence while observers said the government brought up this burden on itself.
However, at a rally in the North East Region where Dr Bawumia engaged youth, he promised that the money would reach the students’ accounts by next week.
“So I believe that, In Sha Allah, by next week, all of you should be receiving the nursing trainee allowances, and they will be in your accounts,” he assured.
