Youth for Human Rights Africa, YoHRA is set to hold one of the biggest gatherings of human rights activists, ambassadors and stakeholders on December 11, 2017 at the Africa Regent Hotel in Accra.
The gathering, Ghana Human Rights Conference is scheduled to mark the United Nations Human Rights Day which is celebrated globally on the 10th [ads1]of December annually.
The conference which is on the theme “Promoting Fundamental Human Rights: A catalyst for accelerated socio-economic development in a free and just society” is expected to bring together about 200 human rights activists, advocates, promoters and ambassadors from Ghana and other African countries as well as some international partners to advance the issues critical to Human Rights on the African continent and Ghana.
Speaking to Awake News, the Director of Communication of YoHRA, Mr. Christopher Ankou, said YoHRA has recently been at the forefront of human rights advocacy and protection.
According to him, the conference seeks to promote human rights education, create the opportunity for human rights activists to network and equip Ambassadors and Promotors in Ghana and other parts of Africa to become more effective at both the national and continental levels.
He added that the conference will also create a common platform to share experiences in Human Rights promotions through various human rights projects and to train participants in developing and sustaining Human Rights Projects and sharpening their skills for community-based Human Rights activism.
The conference is expected to be addressed by very seasoned speakers and human rights campaigners including Prof. Jared Akama Onyari from Kenya, Prof. Vuckor Quarshie, Dr. Peter Atupare, Mr. Francis-Xavier Sosu.
Some special guest expected to be at the programme are the Minister of Children, Gender and Social Protection, Leaders of the Majority and Minority side of Ghana’s parliament and Heads of government agencies and institutions including the Ghana Army, the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, CHRAJ, NCCE and representatives from the UN.
The special guest of honour is the former Attorney General, Hon. Marietta Brew-Appiah
Youth for Human Rights Africa (YoHRA) was established in 2016 and has since been promoting fundamental human rights through the use of National, Regional, African and United Nations Human Rights Instruments.
