Write for World Charities, a voluntary non – profit service club on Thursday, organized the final phase of its maiden project dubbed “Write for World Challenge 2019,” for students of Santrokofi townships in the Oti region where the project is currently being piloted.
The project which began few months ago saw seventy (70) students take part in the first phase of the maiden writing competition from whom twenty five (25) students qualified for the final stage after the students had attained the fifty (50) percent or above pass mark in the first stage of the competition which was written at the comfort of their homes.
The programme which saw students from all three communities converge at Santrokofi- Bume for the final stage has the theme, “discovering the potentials of students in creative writing; building a generation of critical thinkers.”
According to stakeholders and teachers, the project is a novelty in the schools and for that matter the community. Staffers also shared how the project will go a long way to spice up the education of the less privileged students and by extension bridge the gap between rural and urban education.
Jonas Kojo Mabe, the project coordinator noted, that God has created at no cost to mankind, a landmass that is able to accommodate about 7.7 billion people of the world. “There was, therefore, the need to entertain one another and bring smiles on the faces of fellow humans in whatever way possible,” he said.
He again disclosed, that as part of the writing competition, awards would be given to successful students and have them go through training and mentoring to sharpen their creative writing skills to help reduce the high rate of illiteracy in the communities in particular.
The project is in partnership with Care Beyond Cure, another humanitarian organization and supported by MAFLOD Cold stores.
The coordinator was confident the project will extend to adjoining communities and appealed to philanthropists, corporate organizations and individuals for support to make the project an annual exercise.
