The Center for Ethical Governance-Ghana – CEG (GH) is calling on the management of the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College to immediately withdraw what they described as a “shameful and sycophantic Press Release” sought to abuse the human and political rights of their students.
The Centre in a press statement copied Awake News and signed by its Executive Director, Prof. Kwame Ohene Adjei was reacting to press release issued by the Management of the Nalerigu Nursing and Midwifery Training College yesterday dissociating itself from some of their students’ public display of discontent with the President Akufo-Addo. These students’ in a viral video were seen wailing and apologizing to the former President John Mahama for voting against him [Mahama] in the 2016 general elections.
In the said press statement, the management of the College said the view expressed by those students do not represent the total view of the students in the college and also students who attended the event at the Palace of the Overlord of Mamprugu to welcome the former President to the Savannah Region sought no approval to attend the said event.
The statement went on to said that College’s management has launched a full-scale investigation into the matter “since there appears to be a potential breach students conduct code/rules and regulations of the college”
But these words from the Management of the College seems to have incurred the wrath of the Centre saying the College’s management has “no right over the free conscience and Freedom of Expression of the nurses.”
“The Management of the College is hereby advised against taking any unscrupulous disciplinary action against the affected students since, any such action will be a complete violation of Article 21 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.” the statement said
The CEG-GH stands in solidarity with all the students who thronged the palace of the Overlord of Mamprugu to welcome the former President to the Savannah Region and will take every legal and constitutional steps to protect the interests and rights of the affected students from any unprincipled and unethical steps by the school.” – Prof. Kwame Ohene Adjei emphasized

RE: PRESS RELEASE
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ABUSE HUMAN AND POLITICAL RIGHTS OF THE NALERIGU NURSING TRAINEES
The attention of the Center for Ethical Governance (Ghana) – CEG (GH) has been drawn to a Press Release purported to have been issued by the Management of the College of Nursing and Midwifery at Nalerigu, ostensibly reacting to the open and genuine concerns expressed by some nurses of the institute against the Akufo-Addo government’s gross mismanagement, daily corruption and insensitivity.
In the video that has gone viral on social media, these student nurses were seen wailing and apologizing to the former President John Dramani Mahama for voting against him in the 2016 general elections.
The CEG-GH wishes to notify the management of the College that under no circumstances will they be allowed to intimidate these Nurses and violate their constitutional rights.
The Management of the College of Nursing and Midwifery is hereby reminded that, there are no two types of rights for students in Nursing and Midwifery training institutions in Ghana.
Where was the Management of the College when other nurses openly demonstrated in favour of President Akufo-Addo?
The CEG-GH calls on the Management of this College to immediately withdraw the shameful and sycophantic Press Release since they have no right over the free conscience and Freedom of Expression of the nurses.
The Management of the College is hereby advised against taking any unscrupulous disciplinary action against the affected students since, any such action will be a complete violation of Article 21 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
Managers of public institutions, who clandestinely do open politics and bidding of politicians are hereby reminded of their professional and ethical responsibilities to be fair, balanced and non political in the exercise of their duties.
The allusion in the Press Release that the students have benefited fully from the Nursing Training Allowances, is of no administrative value, but naked politics, since those alleged payment of allowances were from the tax payer.
The CEG-GH stands in solidarity with all the students who thronged the palace of the Overlord of Mamprugu to welcome the former President to the Savana Region.
The CEG-GH will take every legal and constitutional steps to protect the interests and rights of the affected students from any unprincipled and unethical steps by the school.
Thank you
