[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he leadership of the New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region assured they have put measures to ensure 100% approval of all Municipal and District Chief Executives nominated by the President Akufo-Addo to the various Assemblies in the Eastern Region and to a larger extent the whole of Ghana.
Local Governance Act of 2016, Act 936 mandates persons nominated by the president as MMDCEs to secure a two-third majority vote of assembly members present and voting in order for them to be considered approved as MDCEs.
[ads1]The regional executive interacting with the media in the Eastern Regional capital Koforidua, following the nomination of some 212 MDCE nominees said, the party has put measures in place to ensure that they will work hard for a 100% approval of all the nominees.
Mr. David Prah, the Eastern Regional Communication’s Director of New Patriotic Party who spoke used the opportunity to appeal to all party faithfuls aggrieved over the appointment of some persons to exercise restraints in how they register their displeasure.
He said that even before the names were made public, the party started putting measures in place to ensure that disapproval will not happen.
Hinting on what the party leadership had been doing, Mr. Prah said they had extensively engaged with all aspirants who put their name forward to be considered to talk to their supporters not to do anything untoward. “We had an extensive engagement with all aspirants and I am sure they will support the work to see to it that the approval of the nominees becomes apparent without hitches” he said.
Corroborating what the chairman of the select committee for the appointment Mr. Peter McManu has been saying, he added that the party did a very wide consultation of stakeholders including especially traditional leaders, assembly members and party executives and he trusts the names put forward by the president are the obvious choices of the people.
