Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has expressed shock about the kind of woman the chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commissions (EC) is.
According to him, Jean Mensa’s election reform initiatives have always aroused controversy, reflecting her antipathy toward peace.
On Tuesday, January 23, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, proposed moving the date of both presidential and parliamentary elections from December 7 to November 7.
Responding to the proposal on Radio Gold on Friday 26 December 2024, the private legal practitioner wondered who is helping Jean Mensa make these unpopular decisions that have dire consequences for taxpayers and Ghana’s democracy.
“Who at all is encouraging Madam Jean Mensa with some of these decisions? It looks like Madam Jean Mensa doesn’t like peace. You will notice that all the electoral reform proposals that have been brought are the ones that stir up controversy”.
“When political parties propose that limited voter registration should be done at electoral areas, she said no, it should be held at district offices. She will sit down and say we should not use indelible ink in our elections. She can sit down and say the election should close at 3 pm. What kind of woman is she?” bemused Edudzi posited.
