The Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), GRIDCo, and the Ministry of Energy to urgently address the persistent and unannounced power outages affecting his constituency.
In a statement released on April 17, 2025, Hon. Shaib described the outages as unplanned and uncommunicated, warning that they are disrupting daily life and putting lives and livelihoods at risk.
He noted that the situation is affecting essential services such as healthcare, education, and local businesses, many of which are struggling to operate under the unreliable power conditions.
Although he acknowledged that the ongoing power crisis is a national issue, the MP stated that Weija-Gbawe has been disproportionately affected, with some areas experiencing outages for more than four consecutive days.
Despite previous engagements with ECG officials and assurances of intervention by GRIDCo, there has been no meaningful improvement.
Hon. Shaib appealed firmly to the responsible agencies to take immediate and permanent action, emphasizing that the residents of Weija-Gbawe deserve a stable and reliable electricity supply.
