The National Director of Marriage and Family Affairs, Family Federation for World Peace and Unification of Nigeria, Dr. Raphael Ogar Oko said African leaders cannot create a secured society just by killing criminals.
Speaking on Radio Nigeria yesterday in Abuja on insecurity in Nigeria, Dr. Ogar Oko said an increase of investment in education and job creation can help address the insecurity in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
“You cannot create a secured society just by killing criminals. We need to work beyond that. Investment in education and making sure that there are opportunity for the employment of our young people. If these young people are hiding then the most likely thing is that they will take to all forms of criminality” – He told Radio Nigeria
He noted the materialism is being celebrated in society without questioning the source of those wealth adding that is the primary cause of people’s quest to involve in criminal activities.
“The society celebrates materialism. What counts is how much you have not how did you make it. What are you coming home with. People are interested in he building a new house, he bought a new car and no body asking how and the source of the money” – He said as monitored by Awake News.
“And this kidnapping things, armed robbery are very easy way of making money” – He added.
“Like kidnapping, you just hold someone in one place and just start asking for millions. and the money will be dropped.”
“So do you need to go and work in the civil service for one year and you cannot make a million Nira? – He quizzed
Dr. Oko has since emphasized the insecurity will not be fully addressed by creating more check points and buying more arms for security agencies without human capital development and strengthening of family values.
