The people of Dambai in the Krachi East Municipal for some time now have been struggling to get water for their domestic use despite the Oti River the running through the Municipality.
Some concern residents who spoke to Christiana Ativi said the problem which has lasted for many months now compels them to buy [ads1]water at a high cost from motor tricycle riders or walk for the long distance to the Oti River to fetch the untreated water.
They noted that some food vendors also fetch this same water to prepare food for the public consumption. They are appealing to the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Patrick Jilimah and Hon. Micheal Gyato the Member of Krachi East who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation to come to their aid.
In an interview with the Coordinating Director, Mr Owusu Akowuah, he said the former management board mismanaged the facilities while it was handed over to them which resulted in the accumulation of Electricity bills. In his statement, the Assembly had so far paid half of the bill to Electricity Company of Ghana.
According to him, most of the pumps had been broken down and needs an emergency maintenance adding that they have, therefore, lobbied to procure new pumps to fix the broken pipes.
Mr. Akowuah revealed that there has been a delay in the inauguration of the new management board because of the inability of the Katanga community to present as a result of some legal tussle.
Mr Akowuah added that before the inauguration, they will be given a special training in order not mismanage the facilities but as to when the people will get clean drinking water he couldn’t voice it out but said they are working hard to solve the problem.
