The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) is urging Ghana and neighboring countries to strengthen regional collaboration to tackle persistent payment issues that are fueling a gas supply deficit across West Africa.
WAPCo says resolving these financial challenges is crucial to maintaining a steady gas flow that powers electricity and industry throughout the sub-region.
Speaking at the West African Gas Pipeline Committee of Ministers meeting in Accra, WAPCo Managing Director Michelle Burkett emphasized the need for urgent and unified action.
“Although gas deliveries from Nigeria have improved significantly, we are still falling short of meeting regional demand,” Burkett noted. “We need coordinated efforts to secure a reliable base load and ensure long-term financial stability.”
The company believes that only through collective responsibility and consistent payment mechanisms can West Africa achieve energy security and support sustainable industrial growth.
