The Ablekuman South Constituency Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Gideon Hammond has said the well-attended “WALK TO CHANGE THE CHANGE 2020” was never an anti-Okoe Vanderpuije initiative but a campaign to kick-out the non-performing President Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government from power.
He was reacting to an Awake News’ earlier publication with the headline “NDC Ablekuman South Walked To Change Okoe Vanderpuije for Nii Tan in 2020” which shot to suggest that the Ablekuman South Constituency youth wing had organized the walk to help change the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.
‘As the Constituency Youth Organizer and the very person who spearheaded the walk Dubbed WALK TO CHANGE THE CHANGE 2020, this theme was targeted at the 2016 presidential change, which has brought untold hardship, insecurity and rise in hooliganism in this country, Thus”change the change”‘ – Mr. Hammond said in a rejoinder
According to him, “As The Constituency Youth Organizer, I can say on Authority that the entire Executive Committee is committed to ensuring that the Incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vandepuye has a successful tenure in office”
In a follow-up interview with Awake News, Mr. Hammond said the picture featured in the story with Nii Tan’s photo on with the caption”Walk To Change The Change for Nii Tan 2020″ did not pop-up during the walk and shocked see the said picture for the first time with the publication. He describes the action of those behind that banner and the said picture as “ambush marketing” and emphasised that Nii Tan, the immediate past Constituency Secretary “can’t use our platform and also twist the facts”
Though he cannot confirm where the banner and the picture was staged or fake, he emphasized “The banner doesn’t represent the true picture of the walk. The banner is not reflecting the true intent of the walk”
He maintained that the true banners for the walk never carried any other message but “Walk To Change The Change 2020”.
There were several dignitaries from the party leadership that took part in the walk. These dignitaries include the first National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Sofo Azorka; the incumbent MP, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije; a National deputy Communication Officer, Mr Ako Gunn; a deputy National Youth Organizer, Edem Agbana; Greater Accra Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Organizer, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Treasurer and the Constituency Executives from Ablekuma South.
He has since as Awake News to retract the story and aplogize to the executives and entire members of the NDC.
“l find the headline alarming and untrue; l therefore ask that the caption should be corrected or better still as a matter of urgency retract, pull down down that misleading story and apologize accordingly to the Constituency Executive Committee and the entire Party Members. Myself and the Executive of the Constituency will advise ourselves if we find this story still on that blog”
