The Black Stars B popularly known as the local Black Stars will engage the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Group A’s opener of the Fox WAFU Cup of Nations tomorrow at the Nduom Sports Stadium.

Ghana eliminated Gambia by a lone goal in the preliminaries whilst Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone by 2-0 to progress to the group stage of the competition.

According to the format being used in the WAFU tournament,16 teams will compete in the preliminaries with eight teams progressing to the group stages.

So far, host nation Ghana, Nigeria, Guinea, Mali, Senegal have qualified to the group stage of the competition which begins on September 11, 2017.

Host nation Ghana is in group A alongside Nigeria, Guinea and Mali. Group B comprises of Senegal, Niger, Ivory Coast/Togo and Benin/Cape Verde.

The teams to have exited the tournament at the preliminary round, are The Gambia, Liberia, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso.

All the preliminary games where played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. The group A matches will be honoured at the Elmina Sports Stadium.

President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi, in an interview with the media has stated that efforts are been taken to ensure that pitch at Cape Coast Stadium is maintained at its best. The pitch has been used for all the preliminary games.

“We have contracted Green Grass Technology to maintain the pitch for us and on regular bases they have been working on the pitch, even after the games to ensure the pitch is ok for the tournament”.

The Local Black Stars will take on Nigeria in their first group game at the Nduom stadium tomorrow.

Group A Fixtures

Ghana vs Nigeria- 3pm

Mali vs Guinea- 6pm
