The Volta River Authority (VRA) has assured Ghanaians of its continued commitment to sustainable and efficient electricity production to meet national energy demands.
Speaking to Joy Business, VRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Edward Obeng Kenzo, emphasized the Authority’s focus on operational excellence and staff motivation as key drivers of its performance. He noted that employees have been empowered to enhance efficiency and ensure reliable power delivery.
“We are doing everything possible to meet the power needs of Ghanaians,” Mr. Kenzo said, adding that VRA is actively collaborating with stakeholders to mobilize resources for increased production capacity.
The CEO also reiterated the Authority’s efforts to recover debts owed by customers, a move that analysts say has been yielding positive results.
“VRA is sincerely on a mission for growth, with a strong track record of profitability and operational success,” he added.
According to the Auditor General’s 2022 Report, VRA recorded a profit of GH¢110.893 million in 2022, following GH¢112.758 million in 2021. The Authority’s total income rose by 34% in 2022 to GH¢5.628 billion, largely driven by a 38.7% surge in revenue from electricity sales.
Additionally, VRA’s current assets grew by 36.1%, reaching GH¢11.751 billion in 2022, up from GH¢8.631 billion in the previous year, mainly due to increased trade and other receivables.
Industry observers believe these gains reflect the effectiveness of VRA’s strategic leadership and its readiness to deliver long-term, sustainable energy solutions for Ghana.
