Some applicants in the ongoing limited recruitment exercise by the Ghana Education Service (GES) are accusing the Nkwanta North District office of the GES in Kpassa in the Volta Region of extorting money from them.
According to some of the applicants who spoke to Awake Investigates on condition of anonymity, they were asked by some officials in the GES office to pay amounts ranging from GH¢10.00 to [ads1]GH¢30.00 before they could submit their application documents, GH¢35.00 for the verification of certificates and GH¢100 for interview.
One of the victims said, they were forced to pay as that is the only way to guarantee being part the selection process.
“some unemployed people who applied for the position could not afford these amounts in order to be taken through the process, meaning, their applications will not be considered” – He added
Our check from other districts in the region indicated that they are not charging the said fees for the recruitment exercises.
One member of Awake Investigates posed as an applicant was also made to pay before his application could be submitted.
Our efforts to speak to the the Director in the district Mr. Maxwell Gyambibi proved futile as he will not answer our phone calls or reply out text messages.
