Gilbert Korbla Keklie, the Chief Executive Officer of Busy International Solution Centre, who doubled as the Assembly Member for Anlo Afiadenyigba Dziehe – Ablame Electoral has launched a program dubbed “BISC – Youth and Students Mentorship Program” for the junior and senior school students as well as the young entrepreneurs within the Keta Municipal Assembly.
The BISC – Youth and Students Mentorship Program which was successful launched on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Dzelukope E.P. Basic School in the Keta Municipal Assembly of the Volta Region drew over 200 participants comprising junior and senior school students; teachers; young entrepreneurs; remedial students; national service [ads1]personnel; mentors and some special guests.
Hon. Keklie who believes education and mentorship is the right approach to helping young people grow their various fields initiated a course to provide coaching assistance for the students and young entrepreneurs.
The programme according to energetic and visionary assemblyman will help restore confidence in the youth to follow the principle of pragmatism, help students in their program selection into senior high schools and the tertiary institutions in Ghana.
He bemoaned the falling standard of the guidance and counselling units in both junior and senior high schools which he says is contributing to some of the little challenges face by student. He has therefore called for the intervention of for civic society organizations to support.
According Hon. Keklie, the Students Representative Councils in the senior schools are not performing as expected due to lack of training to equip them enough for the leadership roles.
“The SRC’s in the senior high schools are not performing as expecting because they lack leadership coaching and training. There is the need for the SRC to go through mentorship programs to make the SRCs the vibrant students body in the senior high schools to help provide direction to the students body” – Hon. Mr. Godwin Yao Effah, bursar for Dzodze-Penyi Senior High School (DZODZEC) who spoke on how the young entrepreneurs can raise funds in growing their businesses, challenged the youth to cultivate the habit of savings and worth creation.
He advised them to stop relying on loans from financial institutions but seek advice from the officse of the Business Advisory Business Centre in the Keta Municipal Assembly.
Mr. Joel Degue, a tutor at Keta Senior High School spoke on youth and students leadership. He used the occasion to advise the youth and the students to remain focused in their endeavors. He urged students and the youth to cultivate the habit of reading and also attend seminars and workshops since motivational and great speakers are always found at those events.
Mr. Promise Kofi Baccah and Prophet Daniel Dayie, writers and a tutors at Keta Academy and Kekeli Remedial School respectively and a mentor at Busy International Solution Centre, with full of emotions electrified the participants with their true life stories.
Mr. Isrealmore Ayivor, the CEO of Moretalks took the participants through the importance of networking amoung the youth and their mentors. He also advised the youth to be in touch with their mentors all the time.
