At a time that everyone thought the dust had settled on which aspirants have been cleared by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest in its upcoming Parliamentary Primaries across some 168 constituencies where it has sitting Members of Parliament, youth loyal to the party at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua Constituency have invoked fresh curses on the party leadership.

The directive by the General Secretary of the party, John Boadu for all members who partook of the wave of invocation of deities in some constituencies in the Ashanti region to be suspended did not perturb the youth from embarking on yet another cursing parade.

They contend that the party erred in disqualifying two persons, John Ofori-Atta and Augustina Asantewaa from the race, making the incumbent MP and Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah to go unopposed on June 20.

According to them, there is nothing to show for the 16 years of stewardship of Mr. Kwame Asiamah and that the ploy by the party leadership to impose him for yet another term in Parliament would not be countenanced.

“Whoever is behind the imposition of Kwame Asiamah on Atwima Mponua; whoever has taken money to ensure that he sails through unchallenged, we summon them to motor accidents; we slaughter this goat on the head of the General Secretary John Boadu and any other leader who have a hand in this issue”.

This is not the first time that the youth of the Atwima Mponua Constituency have opposed the fifth term bid of Hon. Asiamah; it would be recalled that, in January this year, MyNewsGh.com reported of the displeasure expressed by the youth when the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Frimpong Boateng had announced at a public function that government had settled on Mr. Asiamah to go unopposed, months before the opening of nominations.

Isaac Asiamah, the current Minister for Youth and Sports entered Parliament on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2005 at the age of twenty-nine years; he was the youngest parliamentarian in Ghana’s history at the time.

Upon entering Parliament, he rose through the ranks from member to the Chairman of the Select Committee on Youth and Sports; in 2017, he was appointed by President Akufo-Addo as the Minister of Youth and Sports and has served in that capacity till date, making him the longest-serving since 2009.

But his constituents say there is nothing to show for his representation in the legislature for the almost 16 years that he has been there.

“16 years nie, yenhuu hwee” (we have not seen anything in 16 years), the crowd at Mpasatia shouted when Prof Frimpong Boateng continued with the “message from the government” to allow Hon. Isaac Asiamah to go unopposed, they said in January.

This morning, the youth, clad in red stormed the center of the Mpasatia Town, poured libation, smashed eggs on the ground and slaughtered a white goat to cement the effects of the curse.
