Virgil van Dijk is expected to sign a new two-year contract with Liverpool before the end of the season, joining Mohamed Salah in committing his future to the club, according to multiple reports.

Following the announcement that Salah will remain at Anfield until 2027, Liverpool fans now have even more to cheer about as one of their defensive anchors nears an agreement to stay.

Van Dijk, whose current deal runs out in 2025, revealed earlier this week that discussions were moving in the right direction.

Now, trusted outlets such as The Times and Fabrizio Romano report that the contract is effectively done and only awaits the defender’s signature.

The legal review has reportedly been completed and the club is preparing for an official announcement before the season ends on 25 May.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot remained tight-lipped when asked about the contract during Friday’s press conference. “I think you know the answer.

The boring answer as always,” he said with a smile. Still, he had high praise for Van Dijk’s performances throughout the campaign.

“I can tell you that I am very happy with Virgil this season. He’s been incredible for us. Even in recent games where there may have been moments he could have done better, if you look at the other 89 minutes, he is such an important player for us.”

Slot continued, “Let’s hope he can do the same again on Sunday against West Ham. He has been our leader all season and I expect no less.”

Liverpool are just four wins away from lifting the Premier League title for only the second time in the modern era.

With both Salah and Van Dijk expected to be key parts of next season’s squad, the Reds appear well-positioned to remain in contention for trophies and strengthen their legacy under Slot’s leadership.
