Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that an announcement concerning his future at the club will be made “in the upcoming weeks.”

The Dutch defender, whose current contract expires in July, has yet to agree a new deal with the Reds. Alongside teammates Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk’s future has been a major topic of speculation this season.

While the 33-year-old had previously been expected to remain at Anfield, recent reports have linked him with big-money moves to Saudi Arabia as well as interest from several European clubs.

Speaking at a Cadbury’s promotional event, Van Dijk remained tight-lipped on the specifics of any potential agreement but acknowledged that clarity is coming soon.

“I can’t say more than there will be news in the upcoming weeks,” he said. “Whether it’s positive or not, I have no idea at this point… I don’t know.”

Despite the uncertainty, Van Dijk expressed his continued affection for Liverpool.

“I love the club and the club loves me. I love playing for Liverpool. I love being around the boys each and every day. At this stage, I’m not really panicking whatsoever. So let’s see.”

Liverpool are believed to be optimistic about retaining both Van Dijk and Salah, with talks reportedly ongoing. However, Alexander-Arnold’s future appears less certain amid persistent rumours of a summer switch to Real Madrid.
