The headmaster of Katanga Roman Catholic Junior High in the Krachi Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region has threatened to close down the school over what he described as total neglect after the school was destroyed by the rainstorm on March 4, 2018.

The rainstorm destroyed five classrooms leaving them unroofed, teaching and learning materials, stationery worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

According to him in an interview with Getwar Radio’s Christiana Ativi, despite the visit to the school to access the extent of the damage by The Municipal NADMO Coordinator; MP for Krachi East, Hon. Gyato Yaw Michael; Municipal Engineer and the Municipal Director of Education the situation remain the same posing unbearable challenge to teaching and learning activities.

Mr. Takyi also revealed a report on the condition of the school has been sent to the Municipal Chief Executive of Krachi East, the Education Director and Catholic Diocese of Jasikan but have not received any response.

He said, “We the authority are afraid of any unfortunate disaster so, we always have to ask the children to go home anytime it’s about to rain”.

“Yesterday, I personally went to the MCE about this, he called the constructor before me so I’m just waiting up to Friday 5th October, 2018 if nothing is done, I will be compelled to close down the school because it’s affecting teaching and learning”. He added.

Samuel Kupe and Owusua Francisca both in their final year pupils of the school who spoke to the media said they are scared of failing the upcoming BECE if the authorities fail to hear their plea and reconstruct the damaged school buildings.

“We are, therefore, appealing to the general public and the government as a whole to come to our aid”

It can be recalled that Hon. Patrick Jilimah, the MCE of the area interview on Gateway Radio on the issue about two months ago promised to fix the challenge but the situation remains the same.
