The Member of Parliament for the Ho West Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah has called on government to start the distribution of some 94 ambulances that have been procured but have since been packed at the forecourt of Parliament house in Accra.
The MP made the call at a time he donated some medical equipments to the Ho West District Health Directorate on Monday.
In a response to questions on the ambulances during a recent encounter with the media, President Akufo-Addo disclosed that the ambulances would be distributed in January 2020, after the remaining 181 arrives to avoid being called bias.
The MP however said, the explanations given by President Nana Addo Akuffo-Addo over the delay in the release of the ambulances to the various constituencies is “unjustifiable and difficult to accept”.
“While citizens continue to die as a result of lack of ambulances to convey victims to hospitals during emergency situations, it’s difficult to accept President Akuffo-Addo’s justification for which about 94 ambulances procured by government are still packed”.
He urged government to as a matter of urgency, start the distribution of the ambulances to minimize the high level of casualties recorded in the country on daily basis.
He said “government must take the necessary steps to distribute the said ambulances to most needy constituencies, as they await the delivery of the remaining 181 ambulances; my people need it, every life counts and we must play our roles as duty bearers to save lives”, he remarked.
Mr. Bedzrah added further that, after securing the approval for the upgrade of the Kpedze Polyclinic to a district hospital, government has since not made any efforts to getting the facility upgraded.
He called on government to take steps in that regard, in order to provide quality health service delivery for the people of Ho West.
“I wish to seize the opportunity to remind the government of the day that our people deserve quality, affordable and accessible healthcare.
It’s therefore incumbent upon them to continue with policies of the previous administration geared towards achieving this objective and to cause the upgrade of the Kpedze Polyclinic to a district hospital to make secondary healthcare service accessible to the good people of Ho West”.
The MP made a donation of medical equipments, estimated to have cost about GHC 70,000 to the district health directorate.
