The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Ghana is seeking proposals for projects that promote transparency, accountability, integrity, and/or ethics in business, the public sector, or civil society.

The Embassy of the United States shares these goals and desires to improve governance, strengthen democratic institutions, and promote accountability in Ghana. To that end, the U.S. Embassy in Ghana is accepting proposals for a series of events around the United Nations-designated International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, 2017. The Embassy solicits projects that increase public awareness on corruption-related issues during the week of December 4-9, 2017, leading up to International Anti-Corruption Day.

Projects must directly address the topic of transparency, ethics, anti-corruption, and/or accountability. Initiatives may target either specific audiences or the general public, and should further the goal of raising public awareness, strengthening corporate ethical practices, or holding government institutions accountable. Events may be new initiatives or existing programs focused on transparency. All events/projects should have a publicly presentable component that will be showcased in Accra between December 4 and 9, 2017.

Suitable Projects

Examples of suitable projects include:

  • public education campaigns
  • curriculum development for schools
  • academic roundtable on corruption
  • academic or community courses on ethical behavior
  • civic education initiatives in schools or universities
  • education on tracking government expenditures
  • seminars or workshops with community/religious leaders
  • public dialogue between civil society and government leaders
  • launch or promote a crowd sourced corruption exposure platform
  • publicly screening or releasing results of investigative journalism
  • musical concert with an anti-corruption theme
  • raising awareness of successes in citizen-based, business-based, or public sector-based efforts to promote integrity

Funding Information

The United States will wholly or partially fund one or more projects up to 50,000 USD, but no more than 10,000 USD per single project.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The grant cannot fund activities and projects of ministries or agencies of the Government of Ghana, although initiatives from quasi-government or government-affiliated institutions with an anti-corruption mandate will be considered.
  • Note: Applicants must be present in Ghana at the time of the application process and all project activities must occur in Ghana.
  • The project purpose should be specific. Results should be measurable and realistic. The proposal should explain the desired outcomes of the project. The project should aim to benefit as many people as is suitable for the project type, but the quality of interaction/benefit should also be high.
  • Priority will be given to projects that:
    • Demonstrate substantial impact in raising awareness about the prevalence and means to combat corruption;
    • Include a one-time public event as part of a larger effort to promote transparency, accountability, and ethics; and
    • Provide concrete goals and objectives, outline major activities, and provide a specific timeline of all activities.
