[dropcap]A[/dropcap] pressure group, United for National Interest will today, June 30, 2017, 1:00pm hold a press conference at the Ghana International Press Centre, Accra to commemorate the Martyrs Day – a very important day on the legal calendar in Ghana.
[ads1]According to Mr. Korsi Senyo, the Convener of United for National Interest, they will use the press conference to honor some fallen heroes of Rule of Law, celebrate the living heroes, Apostles of Rule of Law and address some issues of injustice in the country.
The press conference which is on the theme “WHEN THE LAW BECOMES A TOOL FOR INJUSTICE”, will also be use to re-echo their call for the ban to be lifted on celebrated human right lawyer, Mr. Francis-Xavier Sosu.
United for National Interest is one of the pressure group advocating for banned to be lifted of Lawyer Sosu and also petitioned the General Legal Council against some 30 other lawyers on the grounds of touting and personal advertising – one of the charges on which Lawyer Sosu was banned for three year by the council.
This is the message from the office of the group’s convener:
Today is a solemn day for the JUDICIARY. It marks the killing of 3 High Court Judges on 30th June, 1982.
We call it Martyrs Day.
The significance of Martyrs Day is the observance of RULE OF LAW.
If the institution mandated by law to promote the Rule of Law becomes lawless and abusive, then we make a mockery of the Martyrs Day.
Join us today at the International Press Centre, Accra, on our press series –
