Elikem Kotoko, Member of the NDC National Communication Team

The Communication Director of pressure group, Youth for Accountable Governance-YoFAG, Mr. Elikem Kotoko has taken a swipe at the lecturers at the Political Science Department of University of Ghana who has recently launched a survey report projecting that President Akufo-Addo will win if elections were held in this January 2019.

According to the researchers, President Akufo-Addo and the “NPP will win hands down with over 48% votes” whiles former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will pull 33.3%.

This projection did not go down well with the outspoken youth activist saying the lecturers who work on that research are now acting like “people teachers”.

Mr. Kotoko backed his assertion saying, “According to Ghanaian electoral laws, to be declared a winner in presidential elections it has never been by simple majority but instead, it is by a 50% +1 majority”

So, “For a research team of university lecturers to come out with a research to suggest that if elections were held today the NPP will win hands down with over 48% votes insults the intelligence of this learned lecturers who are now acting as ‘people teachers'”

“It is a big shame to their acquired intellect over time” – He added

Analyzing the results of the UG Polls as presented by the department, Mr. Kotoko said “If their skewed research is anything to go by, it only means an election today will result into a run-off and not a win for the incumbent, which is worrying considering govt’s continuous praise for itself as having achieved a lot over the past two years”

“The earlier the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana comes out to disassociate itself from this disgrace the better. Message to the wise” – He urged

The survey report was launched on Wednesday, 9 January 2019 and Dr Maame Gyekye-Jandoh, the Head of the Political Science Department, University of Ghana, is reported to have said “For Nana Akufo-Addo, 49.3% said they would vote for him, 33.3% said they would vote for Mahama and 7.35% for Paa Kwesi Nduom.”
