A devastating accident has occurred on the Oterkporlu Odumase stretch, claiming the lives of two young men, Wisdom Gbli Horla and Benedict Gbli, both prominent players of the Blockbusters Volleyball Team based in Asesewa, Eastern Region.
The incident occurred when the duo, who were en route to a volleyball game at Odumase, attempted to overtake a pickup truck and veered into the path of an oncoming tipper truck hauling limestone.
The tipper truck, with registration number GS 521-23, was descending from the Odugblase limestone mines and was unable to swerve due to its heavy load and the winding nature of the road. The collision resulted in the instantaneous death of the two young men, leaving their team and community in shock.
Wisdom Gbli Horla, a 24-year-old final-year Computer Science student at the University of Ghana, and his cousin Benedict Gbli were known for their exceptional skills on the volleyball court. Their untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the sports community, with many paying tribute to their memory.
The Odumase Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident, with personnel from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) assisting in traffic control and conveying the remains of the victims to the St. Martin de Porres Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
The authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident and to provide support to the families of the deceased.
