Two suspected robbers arrested in Asankragua

The Western-Central Regional Police Command has apprehended two individuals suspected of planning to commit robbery near Asankragua in the Western Region.

Mohammed Abdul-Salam, 28, and Karim Yakubu, 42, were arrested after a dramatic chase that led police to an abandoned mining site.

According to reports, the suspects were hiding in a bush along a section of the road when a police patrol team spotted them.

Upon noticing the officers, they attempted to flee, prompting a swift pursuit.

The chase ended at the abandoned mining site, where the suspects jumped into a muddy pit in a bid to evade capture.

However, the police officers managed to rescue them from the pit and successfully arrested them.

A search conducted at the time of the arrest led to the retrieval of several incriminating items, including one shotgun, three AAA cartridges and a Nokia keypad mobile phone, suggesting the suspects were prepared for a potential confrontation.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations into the attempted robbery.

The police are likely to scrutinize the recovered items for forensic evidence and analyze the phone records to determine the extent of the suspects’ plans.
