Two arrested for illegal gunfire at funeral in Western North Region

Western North Regional Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the unauthorized discharge of firearms during at a funeral ground in Attakrom near Bibiani.

Frank Afoko, 41, and Kojo Agyapong, 31, were taken into custody on April 2 following investigations into the viral social media video showing the illegal activity.

Western North Police spokesperson, DSP Michael Neekesi, confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects admitted their involvement after being questioned by the Regional Investigation Team.

The incident occurred on March 14 when the suspects and others still at large were filmed recklessly firing weapons during the funeral proceedings.

Authorities have detained Afoko and Agyapong while continuing their manhunt for additional participants in the dangerous display. The police emphasized their zero-tolerance policy toward unlawful firearm use and called on the public to provide any information that might lead to more arrests.

“The Western North Regional Police Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and security,” DSP Neekesi stated, urging community members to report suspicious activities involving weapons.

The case highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal gun use in the region, with charges expected to be filed under Ghana’s strict firearms regulations.
