The Tema Police have shot and killed two armed robbers in a shoot-out at the Tema Community 11 Shell.
According to a Press Release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police Command, Joseph Benefo Darkwah, on Monday January 22, 2018 around 9:50pm, the Police received a distress call from a victim who was being robbed by two armed men on a motor bike.
Upon arrival of the Police Patrol Team on the scene, one of the armed robbers with a gun fired at the police. The police returned fire and the robber was hit. The other robber took cover in a big gutter nearby.
He said, the other robber tried escaping on a motor bike but was pursued by the police to the Kpone landfill site where in an exchange of fire with the police, the robber was shot. He was identified as Raymond Banini, aka “Short Carpo” a notorious armed robber whose case is pending at the Ashaiman Circuit Court for robbery and is on Court bail.
The robbers were rushed to the Police Hospital where they were pronounced dead by the Medical Officer on duty. The bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
One motor bike, one locally manufactured pistol and a handbag identified as that of the complainant were retrieve.
Investigations are still underway by the Tema Police Regional CID.
