Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured the public that transport fares will remain unchanged for the time being, despite recent fuel price reductions. This announcement comes amid growing demands from the public for a fare decrease, particularly after transport unions threatened to raise prices during previous fuel hikes.

In a bid to maintain stability in the sector, Mr. Nikpe emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including transport unions and operators. He revealed that the Ministry is continually engaging with these groups, utilizing a well-established formula to guide fare adjustments.

“We are in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” he explained.

The Minister’s stance aims to strike a balance between providing commuter relief and ensuring the operational sustainability of transport operators.

Indeed, as discussions on potential fare reviews continue, Ghanaians can rest assured that prices will remain steady for the foreseeable future.

“We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured that prices will be kept for some time before any adjustments will be made,” Minister Nikpe added.
