The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20 percent increase in transport fares, effective Monday, March 17.
Kwaku Boateng, the group’s National Public Relations Officer, explained that the hike is due to rising fuel prices, increasing costs of engine oil, and the escalating prices of vehicle spare parts.
Boateng also expressed concern over the absence of tariff reductions in the 2025 budget, despite the Finance Minister’s lengthy speech.
He called on passengers to understand the necessity of the fare increase, emphasizing that it is crucial for the continued operation of transport services. “We are pleading with our passengers to bear with us, as the prices of engine oil and spare parts have all gone up,” he said.
