The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has announced a 20% increase in transport fares, effective Monday, March 17, 2025.
This decision comes on the heels of the recent fuel price hike, which saw prices skyrocket from GHC 12.99 to GHC 16.23.

According to the drivers’ union, the constant surge in fuel prices, spare parts, vehicle prices, and engine oil prices has left them with no choice but to increase fares.

“We are not receiving pay from the government, and we are self-employed, managing ourselves to take care of our families,” stated George Baffour Owusu Afriyie, General Secretary of the Alliance of Drivers Ghana.

“But anytime we go to work, we come back home with empty hands.”

The drivers’ union has called on all its members to take note of the fare increase and has appealed to passengers to understand their decision.

“We are not taking this decision lightly, but we have to survive,” Afriyie emphasized.

This fare hike is not the first time the drivers’ union has taken such action.

In recent years, the union has consistently adjusted fares in response to fuel price increases.

The Alliance of Drivers Ghana has urged the government to consider the plight of drivers and find a lasting solution to the fuel price conundrum.

The fare increase is expected to affect commuters across the country, with many expressing concerns about the impact on their daily expenses.
