The completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals appears to be in jeopardy due to a lack of funding, according to Ghana’s Health Minister, Mintah Akandoh.

In a recent statement, Akandoh revealed that the current government faces significant financial challenges, as there were no funds left behind by the previous administration for the continuation of these crucial health projects.

Speaking to the press on Monday, March 10, Akandoh explained that the previous government, under President John Dramani Mahama, had left financial provisions to complete ongoing health initiatives at the time of their departure from office.

“When John Dramani Mahama was leaving office, and there were some ongoing health projects, we left money behind. Once you are leaving behind an uncompleted project, you leave money for its completion,” he said.

However, Akandoh expressed that the current administration, in contrast, has no financial resources to continue the Agenda 111 hospitals, citing the absence of a reliable funding mechanism.

“We don’t have a Pesewa as I speak to you now to finish these projects because there were no reliable and dedicated sources of funding,” he added.

In response to the situation, former President John Dramani Mahama has called for greater collaboration with missions and other partners to help complete the Agenda 111 initiative, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts in advancing the country’s health infrastructure.
