The Director of Communications of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has admitted that the recent power outages have been “understandably frustrating” whiles assuring Ghanaians that they will soon begin to enjoy uninterrupted supply of electricity.

In a post he made on X (formerly Twitter), the politician said: “The recent power outages have been understandably frustrating. However, there is an end in sight. The maintenance works are almost complete, and we can soon expect access to an uninterrupted power supply around the clock….”

Ahiagbah further threw jabs at the opposition NDC, saying the party should not be talking about the power crisis in the country.

According to him, Ghanaians experienced the worst power crisis under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration.

“The NDC is the last political organization to point fingers because Ghana has not forgotten the hurts of the ‘real dumsor’ suffered under H.E. Mahama,” he wrote in is post.

It is instructive to note that former President Mahama whiles in office acknowledged and took responsibility of the power crises and promised to fixed it.

Prof. John Evans Atta Mills became President in January 2013 with John Mahama as his Vice President. In July 2012, Prof. Mills died in office just about 4months to the Election 2012.

John Mahama was then sworn-in office to complete the expired 4year term of his boss, late Prof, Mills. In December 2012, he won the Presidential election and started his fresh four-year term.

Together with his boss in the 8year rule as Vice President and President, John Mahama and Prof. Mills added 2,885 Mega Watts of power to the national grid.

This unprecedented addition of 2,885MW is the biggest power investment and generation in the history of Ghana in just 8years. This contributed to the end of the dumsor before President Mahama left office in January 2017.

Part of Mahama’s investment in the energy sector is the AMERI Power Plant which the NPP government has now relocated six of the ten units to Ashanti Region, rebrand, renamed and commissioned it as Kumasi 1 Thermal Plant.

However, the President Akufo-Addo-Bawumia led government who previous blamed the NDC of leaving them excess power production capacity, has been hit by serious power crisis close to 3months and has interestingly failed to acknowledge the facts hence their inability to provide Ghanaians with a table on the days and areas the power will go off.
