The Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has indicated that the level of tampering with the voters register by the Electoral Commission (EC) makes it unfit for election 2024.
Speaking to the media during the NDC nationwide demonstration Dr Forson noted that the irregularities and discrepancies can only be ratified by an audit.
The minority leader indicated that only an audit can reveal the level of tampering done to the register.
“We believe that the voter’s register must be audited. The level of tampering we’ve observed so far makes it impossible to proceed without a proper review. This audit will help us understand the extent of the issue and fix the system,” he said.
Dr Forson mentioned a few of the constituencies that have been marred with illegal transfer of votes, including his constituency.
He remarked “In my constituency, we’ve uncovered the addition of about 3,000 names in the transfer register and several instances of multiple names. In total, the register has been bloated by roughly 5,000 names. This raises serious concerns, and we need Parliament to intervene.”
According to him today’s demonstration by the NDCs is only one of the steps initiated by the party.
Dr. Forson revealed that the NDC will recall parliament to compel the EC to do what is right and offer a transparent, free, and fair election in the December polls.
“So what you are seeing today is just the first step, we will undertake a series of activities, including a possible recall of Parliament for us to compel the Electoral Commissioners to do what is required. The most important person is the Ghanaian voter. We want to make sure that on election day, everyone can vote and that every vote counts. We are asking Ghanaians to get involved and ensure that the right things are done” he further added.
